General Home Solutions offers services regarding the planning and supervision processes of a home renovation. A renovation can be a daunting task regarding hiring, timelines, allowable work and budgeting.
After an initial project discussion and preliminary bit of research, including a GIS check and/or a brief consultation with the town, I will personally meet with you to review your project.
I have been working on people’s homes my whole life. As a child, I worked alongside my father who was a local (Westhampton area) caretaker, contractor and small “hands-on” custom builder. I worked with him all through high school and college. It was through one of his clients that I found my first career in the garment business. After my short stint in the garment business (8 years), I returned to Long Island from NYC to join my father in his building company. I worked with him until his retirement in 2014. By 2016, after two years on my own, I had formed FD Building Company with a cofounder. We were able to grow my father’s business to be 12 times the revenue. My partner purchased the company from me in January 2021 and I went on to found General Home Solutions and The Remodel Showroom.
During my time working with my father, I took a keen interest in home design. I enjoy designing both interiors and exteriors. Lucky for me, one the designers that my father worked for took a particular interest in training me and using my construction services on any project he worked on. I learned everything from him including the vendors, resources, space and proportion as well as how to stay current on color palettes. Don’t get me wrong, If a specific type of designer is needed, I would quickly let you know what kind of designer the project might need. I do not classify myself as an interior, kitchen, bath or landscape designer, per se’, but I do have a trained eye for what a space should look like….. and know how to get it done.
I do have a wonderful team of kitchen and interior designers at the Remodel Showroom. If design service is what you’re seeking, I’d make the connection for you. For more information about the Remodel Showroom, visit www.remodelshowroom.com
After the initial consultation is when the real work would begin. I would first ask for a retainer to cover the planning phase. Once a retainer is received, I present a proposed trajectory with a detailed budget for discussion. The budget is substantiated by the last, nearly ten years of owning and managing a large construction company.
Once I present the budget and timeline and research the legality of the proposed project, it’s time to begin hiring consultants and contractors. We would select a drafter, an architect or an engineer depending on the complexity of the request. The benefits of using each is thoroughly discussed. Once the plans are developed, we take your project to town! No, literally. We bring it to town hall for permitting.

We will submit a standard building permit application for a specified fee. Variances are not part of the standard fee but can be handled and billed hourly. We are not set up to handle Environmental work or commercial work. We also are not set up to handle Board of Health submissions. However, if it is part of the required path for your submissions, we will work with trusted expeditors in those departments.

Your project may or may not require a general contractor. Depending on the level of competency in the General Contractor hired, you may no longer need us to complete your project. If you choose an inexpensive general contractor or are looking to hire a series of specialty contractors we may bring value in supervision and coordination. We filter the amount of calls to you and provide general management of the workers. We maintain a digital log of photos shared with you at every visit and we also log meeting notes and required meeting topics.
-
We handle many different types of handyman and maintenance type work. We will pressure wash, replace wood rot, replace doors and windows and paint interiors and exteriors.
-
We work for many builders providing paint, carpentry and tile.
